MATCH PLAY
1. Match Locations and Tables will be as assigned by the League Executive and/or the President. One table is minimum in an establishment is a requirement for match play.
2. The Match must start within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time, unless specified otherwise by the League Executive and/or the President. A Player has 5 minutes to start an individual game from the time it's called. A first Round game only may be delayed until the final match is up in that Round. When either is exceeded, a game forfeit occurs.
3. In effect ONLY if a designated referee is present however be respectful and try to keep within these guidelines. The World Pool-Billiard Association rule for slow play is 45 seconds between shots. A Player must be warned first. When one Player is placed 'on the clock', then all Players and all remaining Match games are also 'on the clock'. The clock starts when all balls stop moving from the previous shot. After 35 seconds, a 10 second warning will be given unless the Player has already assumed a shooting stance. The penalty is a 'cue ball in hand' foul.
4. The biggest single reason for slow Matches is Players not ready to play. All Captains are reminded to make sure each Player knows when they're next up, whether they rack or break, who they're playing and where.
5. If the wrong Player breaks, the game carries on. It's up to both Players to know who was supposed to break.
6. In Match Play if it is noticed during a game that a Player is playing the wrong Player, the game is stopped and the right Players play. If it wasn't noticed until after the game was finished, the game will stand if they are scheduled to play each other later in the Match. If they don't, then that game is considered null and void. In Tournament play it is an immediate loss for the team that has the wrong player played.
7. If neither Player notices that the 8 Ball is no longer on the Table, the game is replayed with the same Player breaking.
8. Any Player who plays on another Table during a Match Game that they are playing will be assessed an automatic game forfeit.
9. The Canadian term of 'just a shot' will be accepted as having said 'safety'.
10. Everyone is reminded that display of poor sportsmanship may result in a game, match or play off forfeit as decided by the President and/or the League Executive.
11. Although the official World Rules specify no 'coaching' during a game, all Teams are asked to exercise good sportsmanship in this regard, especially in the first few weeks, when new Teams and new Players are adjusting to the Game and League Rules.
12. Should there be extenuating circumstances for any matches to be labeled as a make-up/re-scheduled, must be played in the same week of play no later than the following Sunday. Match Forfeit will then take place.
13. The league will be operating a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for league fees. All captains are responsible to ensure that dues are kept up to date. 14. Order of play in Match Play is lowest average to highest average. If a player is new and has no average that player will play last and get a zero average which negates the last player on the other team whose average will not be included. 15. If a team does not show up you still need to turn in a score sheet with your 5 players on it and show the other team as NO SHOW. Failure do hand in your score sheet on time will still result in a penalty. 16. Board Members are the ones who should be able to resolve a dispute. If for any reason the rules cannot be found or agreed upon in a game then the Board Members can be contacted. If no Board Members can be contacted or a decision cannot be made between the two players then a replay must be played in the same week of play no later than the following Sunday. Match Forfeit will then take place. Once a Board Member is contacted and both parties have a chance to speak with that member a decision will be made. That decision is final so the game can continue on. The decision will be reviewed, posted and possibly changed so similar disputes won’t happen. HAVE YOUR RULE BOOKS! To contact board members please see the Contact Us part on our web page. 17. If there is no referee or only “area” referees presiding over matches, the event may be played using cue ball fouls only. That is, touching or moving any ball other than the cue ball would not be a foul unless it changes the outcome of the shot by either touching another ball or having any ball, including the cue ball, going through the area originally occupied by the moved ball. If this does not happen, then the opposing player must be given the option of either leaving the ball where it lies or replacing the ball as near as possible to its original position to the agreement of both players. If a player shoots without giving his opponent the option to replace, it will be a foul resulting in cue ball in hand for the opponent.
